South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 10/4/2018

Fall Time is the Right Time!

If you’ve been out on the river this week then you know how good it is and you probably have been wondering where all the other anglers are?  You can’t deny the way the river is fishing now that Fall time is the right time!

Starting last weekend the weather started to cool and we’ve had cooler cloudier weather every day since.  This was just the nudge the bugs and fish needed to turn the corner to the great Fall fishing we all love.  Believe it or not we’re still catching fish on big foam mutant stone patterns.  If you trail this with BWO nymph (size 18 olive tungsten thread midge) before noon you’re set up right.  Depending on the weather we are seeing excellent BWO and Mahogany Dun hatches starting around noon but sometimes as late as 3:00 and usually tapering off by 5:00 or so.  The afternoons this week have been excellent and I’m a bit jealous of anglers on the water today as conditions are perfect, cool and overcast.

We’ve had guides out on every section of the South Fork this week literally from the Dam to Menan and all reports have come back positive and on all types of patterns and techniques.  Dries, droppers, streamers…need I say more?

The weather for the weekend is calling for more cool, cloudy, and probably wet weather so the good fishing will continue with the added benefit of the waterfowl opener on Saturday morning.  Cast n’ blast anyone?  Our head guide, Jaason Pruett says “There’s lots of fowl in the valley right now and he expects some serious fowl play this weekend” hahaha.

If you’re in Swan Valley this weekend stop into the shop and see us.  All summer clothing is 50% off and we’ve got lots of yummy flies to show off.

Have a great weekend!
